Introduction
Saigō Takamori (1828–1877) was a prominent Japanese samurai and military leader of the late Edo and early Meiji periods. Known as the “last true samurai,” he played a key role in the Meiji Restoration, helping overthrow the Tokugawa shogunate. Later, he led the Satsuma Rebellion against the central government, embodying loyalty, honor, and the warrior spirit of a bygone era.
