Power Girl felt it as she moved deeper—an unnatural stillness, as though the world itself was holding its breath. “…This silence,” she thought, slowing her pace. “It’s pressing in.” Her footsteps echoed too softly. The air was colder here, heavy with the smell of rust and decay. “Focus,” she murmured to herself. “Just another hostile environment.” Somewhere ahead, hidden behind layers of twisted branches and hanging vines, something vast loomed. I can feel you, she realized. Even if I can’t see you. Then the vines began to move. They slid across the forest floor like living shadows, coiling silently around her ankles. “Hey—!” Power Girl snapped, instinctively tearing free, but the forest responded. Vines dropped from above, wrapping around her arms & shoulders, pulling her off balance. “Let go!” she shouted, struggling as tree trunks split open, releasing more tendrils, thick and sinewy, moving with deliberate intent. She fought back, the shockwaves of her strength snapping several vines apart. “That should’ve stopped you—” she growled— but each one severed only caused three more to emerge. The ground itself seemed to pulse, feeding the forest’s grip. Her breathing slowed against her will. “…Why do I feel… calm?” she whispered, shaken. No. Stay sharp. A faint rhythm pulsed through the vines—slow, steady—softening her muscles with every beat. And then she saw it.
(At the forest’s center stood an abandoned warehouse) powergirl: “…A warehouse?” (she whispered) “Out here?” (Its steel frame was barely visible beneath crawling vines and shattered windows. A broken sign swayed overhead, unreadable) powergirl: “This place… it feels important.” (Nature hadn’t reclaimed it—it had imprisoned it) (The vines tightened) powergirl: “Wait—no,” (Power Girl protested as she was dragged forward) “I’m not walking in there.” (The rhythm matched her breath)
