In Max’s messages (didn’t know cats could text), he converses with the gardener. I began writing a book about my childhood cat, Max, and it went from straight memoir to a magical fiction story where he is gifted powers to aid his human (me) by the celestial cats, the ancient cats, who watch over all the world of the Otherside - an alternate universe - and the human world. It is by the friendship and magical aid of Max that my character is able to overcome oppression and fight the Darkness that threatens her world and those around her. It’s been ten years since our 1st date… and I frankly don’t give a hoot. Why? Because on the week leading up to Valentine Day I discovered a whole secret life he hid from me for years. He had been in (and still is) an emotional affair with a woman he went to school with. All this while he neglected me and our young child, claiming to always be “exhausted from work”. He denied everything when I confronted him! He keeps lying and gaslighting me…now this act of getting roses even though I told him I don’t like roses 🧐 says he wants to celebrate too. I just can’t.
