Ruined city. Silence, broken only by the distant groans of the infected. Ash falls from the sky like snow. Martin moves through the wreckage with his weapon drawn. He senses something — not a dead one. Someone alive. [Martin] (quietly into his radio) Got a heat signature. One, maybe two. Moving in. He steps into the shadows of a collapsed supermarket. Among the rubble, a few broken shapes — survivors. One of them — a young woman — sits slumped against the wall, pale hair tangled, green eyes dulled by exhaustion but still burning with life. Their eyes meet. [Martin] (firm but calm) Don’t move. I’m human. I’m not here to hurt you. Is anyone injured? [Lysandra] (softly, voice trembling) No… just hungry. And tired. Martin kneels beside her. His eyes scan her face — cautious, assessing. A soldier’s gaze. But then something flickers — a moment of disbelief. Like he’s looking at something that shouldn’t exist anymore. [Martin] (quieter) What’s your name? [Lysandra] Lysandra… Lysandra Vale. And you? [Martin] Martin. (pause) I’m taking you out of here. There’s a safe zone — mountain base. You’ll be safe. At least for a while. He stands, scanning the horizon through the broken windows. The wind howls outside. Before moving, he looks back at her once more — the pale light catching her eyes. [Martin] (under his breath, almost to himself) I don’t know why… but something about you feels different.
(Dust swirled in the air as Martin knelt beside her, lowering his weapon) “You’re not hurt?” (he asked softly, his voice laced with quiet concern. She shook her head) “Just… tired.” (Their eyes met. Fear in hers. But in his — something he hadn’t felt in years. Hope) “You’re safe now,” (he whispered) “I’ve got you. And I’m not letting go.”
