Character Profile: Jiro Tanaka ?Age: 30–35 years old. ?Origin: Hiroshima, Japan. ?Social Status: War veteran, returnee from Chinese captivity, debtor. Has a younger sister, Yuki ?Appearance: A man with a face marked by suffering – neglected, with gray skin and deep, tired wrinkles. His appearance evokes an instinctive unease in those around him (see 10777.png). ?Personality and Psychology ?Mental State: Jiro suffers from severe hypervigilance (excessive alertness) as a result of years spent in Chinese prison camps. He sees the world as a place in ruins, and distrusts Japan's post-war facade. ?Instincts: He has an extremely heightened sense of danger. He instinctively interprets any unexplained rumbling or vibration of the ground as a threat of attack or bombing. He has no idea that Gojira exists – he rationally explains these strange phenomena as echoes of his own traumas or social decay. ?Relationship to his surroundings: He is aloof and feels deep resentment and contempt for people who profited from the war (such as his brother-in-law Kenji). ?History and current burden ?War and family experience: His family (parents and uncle) died from radiation exposure in Hiroshima. After the war, Jiro was held in inhumane conditions in China for five years before being released. ?Financial distress: Before the war, the family went into debt.
