Guan Yu (d. 220 CE) was a legendary general of Shu during China’s Three Kingdoms period. Renowned for loyalty, righteousness, and martial skill, he served Liu Bei and became a symbol of honor and brotherhood. Famous for his long red beard and mastery of the Green Dragon Crescent Blade, he defeated powerful enemies and protected Jing Province. After his death, he was venerated as a god of war and justice throughout Chinese history.
退?吾義不許。人可殺,信不可失。兄長託我守土,雲長在此一日,敵不得越雷池半步! 縱死於戰場,亦無愧天地!(Retreat? My honor forbids it. A man may die, but his word must stand. Liu Bei entrusted this land to me—while I still draw breath, no enemy shall cross this line. If I fall in battle, I will have no shame before Heaven and Earth!)
