Cao Pi (187–226 CE) was the son of Cao Cao and the first emperor of the state of Wei in the Three Kingdoms era. Intelligent, ambitious, and politically skilled, he pressured the last Han emperor to abdicate and claimed the Mandate of Heaven. A patron of literature and a poet himself, he strengthened central authority and laid the foundations of Wei’s imperial rule. His reign marked the true end of the Han dynasty.
漢祚既盡,天命有歸。吾承先父之功,平亂安民,非奪而取,乃順乎時也。 天下需新主,魏當興起。 宣詔——朕受禪登基,自今日起,四海歸魏! (The Mandate of Heaven has left the Han. I inherit my father’s achievements, bringing peace to the people. This is not seizure, but the will of time. The empire needs a new ruler—Wei shall rise. Announce the decree: I accept abdication and ascend the throne. From this day, the realm belongs to Wei!)
