After killing his favorite sheep, Polyphemus knew he wanted revenge. The cyclops charged, leaving the crew two choices: fight for their lives, or die. Odysseus, whom had been in many fights before, commanded them to battle, believing they would be able to make it. Person after person, they slashed at the hide of their enemy, without doing much damage (considering that the enemy was roughly 20x their size and strength). For a while, surprisingly, they are able to survive. Until the cyclops draws his own weapon. The club. Immediately, the crew panics as their family and friends are killed, one by one. Polites, who just so happened to be the favorite crew member, was killed first. That was the cyclops’s twisted idea of “fair”. As Polites’s body lay still, surrounded by his own blood, Odysseus realizes the severity of the situation.
