Despite his talent, Kai's inability to connect with others is holding him back. He struggles with the synchronized elements of pair skating, the very act of trusting another person on the ice a terrifying prospect. However, this season, a mandatory pair routine is being introduced, forcing his hand. He needs a partner, not just for competition, but to crack open the walls he's built around himself.
