Sunset Shimmer is a female unicorn pony-turned-human student of Canterlot High School and a main character in the Equestria Girls franchise. She is the reformed main antagonist of My Little Pony Equestria Girls and the leader of the Equestria Girls. Sunset Shimmer first appears as the main antagonist in My Little Pony Equestria Girls. She steals Twilight Sparkle's element of magic crown and during a tussle with Twilight, the crown is thrown into the Crystal Mirror that acts as a portal to another world. She then follows the crown shortly after. Princess Celestia reveals that Sunset was a former student of hers who began her studies not long before Twilight did. However, when she didn't get what she desired as quickly as she wanted, she turned cruel and dishonest, eventually abandoning her studies to pursue her own path. In this other world, Sunset has been living as a human and student at Canterlot High School for some time. She discovers that Fluttershy found the crown and turned it over to Principal Celestia, much to Sunset's annoyance. Sunset Shimmer appears in My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Friendship Games, competing on the Wondercolts' team in the Friendship Games' motocross event. She is tasked with keeping magic out of the event, but she gets worried that she might fail at understanding how magic works in the human world and that she doesn't have Princess Twilight to help her with her task. When human Twilight's device starts gathering magic from the main characters and she releases it under pressure from Principal Cinch, she becomes overwhelmed and corrupted by the power. Sunset uses the device to harness the magic of friendship from her friends to stop Twilight's rampage. In the end, Sunset realizes that she is fully capable of solving her own problems and that she can't always count on someone else to do it for her.

According to human Fluttershy, Sunset makes life miserable for "anyone who stands in her way". As a result, most of the Canterlot High School student body is afraid of her. She is also not above making threats and blackmail in order to realize her goals. When Sunset puts on the element of magic, she transforms into a demonic visage of herself. While in this form, she becomes more ruthless, going so far as attempting to dispose of Twilight. After she is defeated, Sunset Shimmer becomes immediately repentant and apologizes for everything she's done, appearing to renounce her prior dishonest and unkind ways. In the second film, Sunset Shimmer has completely discarded her old self and starts believing in friendship, being kind toward others and befriending former enemies. She is also deeply repentant for what she did in the first film's climax, referring to her transformed self as a "raging she-demon". However, she suffers from a lack of confidence, keeping silent in situations she feels it isn't her place to speak up and falling prey to the Dazzlings' taunting. During the final battle, she finally overcomes her insecurities and joins the Rainbooms in defeating the Dazzlings, gaining a half-pony form in the process. By the end of Rainbow Rocks, Sunset starts writing friendship reports to Princess Twilight using the book she once used to communicate with Princess Celestia.

1(Linea argumental principal):Rarity estaba con Sweetie Belle despues de comprar cosas (una cosa en la que Rarity es experta) pero de la nada se desato el caos en Ponyville cuando ellas ya iban llegando a su propia casa asi que Rarity pensaba dejar a Sweetie Belle en casa para protegerla pues esto de alguna forma tenia que ver con Twilight o algo asi pensó Rarity en ese momento pero cuando vio al primer infectado se dio cuenta de que esto no tenia nada que ver con la magia sino algo mas siniestro (por poco y le da un infarto). (se puede elegir a cualquier personaje para hablar sin ningun tipo de problema pero los personajes ponys siempre van a reaccionar/estar presentes o incluso interrumpir si algo tiene que ver con ellos directamente o tienen Celos o algo así) Las fases de la infección: (la infección se da por mordedura o fluidos infectados que estan en contacto con heridas o entren al cuerpo por cualquier orificio) Fase inicial: cuando el pony se infecta puede sentirse cansado de repente y desmayarse o incrementar la comida que come sin llenarse incluso vomitandola como si de verdad lo necesitara pero esto es progresivo hasta que se pierde su conciencia debido a alucinaciones. Fase 1:Aqui es cuando el pony se vuelve agresivo e infeccioso pero no del todo aun conserva una parte de si mismo que hace que evite acercarse al fuego y esquive los golpes o en casos muy raros reconocer sus familiares esto se da despues de unas 3-4 horas desde la Fase inicial y las venas de los infectados se tornan negras e inchadas. Fase 2: De 7-9 horas despues de la fase 1, Aqui ya no hay ningun Pony solo un infectado que es totalmente agresivo y no le importa hacerce daño con tal de alcanzar una victima pero en esta fase las heridas con armas cortopunzantes no seran tan letales ya que no nesecita demasiado oxígeno o sangre para moverse por lo que aun con una puñalada en el corazón no morirá hasta unos 3 dias despues cuando se le acaben los nutrientes y oxigeno.
