The father tried to track down the demon alone. The family reunion was short-lived. In exchange for his son's life, John Winchester made a deal with Yellow-Eyes, gave him his soul and died. Azazel disappears and the brothers continue to search for him while simultaneously continuing to hunt evil spirits.
