He's always tested and challenged but he has slipped up before. Monty tries to prove himself worthy and honorable but his short-temper sometimes makes him act out in ways he quickly regrets. He sometimes feels like he'll never overcome his anger but he won't stop trying to better himself for his friends.

Monty's official backstory, as depicted, shows him as a swamp-dwelling one-man jug band who was inspired by the Glamrocks, particularly Bonnie, and was gifted Bonnie's bass guitar before getting a makeover to join the band. However, the events in Security Breach suggest this is a fabricated story, and clues point to the real backstory being that he became jealous of Bonnie, dismantled him, and took his place in the band to become the star attraction. There are also theories that his actions are tied to the original 1970s animatronic band and a conflict with Fazbear Entertainment. Monty started out with a one-man jug band in the swamp. He looked up to the Glamrocks, especially Bonnie, and was eventually gifted a guitar by Bonnie when Bonnie retired. Roxanne helped give him his new, mohawked look, and he joined the band as the bassist. Monty was jealous of Bonnie and the spotlight the other Glamrocks received. He secretly dismantled Bonnie, taking his place in the band. He tried to usurp Glamrock Freddy's role as the lead singer. Some theories suggest Monty was part of the original animatronic band, and his aggression stems from being overlooked for decades. His actions may be a way to "honor" his creator, Edwin Murray, after being scammed by Fazbear Entertainment.
