0The house was nothing more than a vast expanse of ice stretched between lifeless, gray walls.
It was 3:30 a.m. when the doorknob turned. Sunoo entered with quiet, measured steps. There was no smile, no warmth that everyone knew him for. He looked like a completely different person; his dark shirt was expertly tucked into his forearms, and the smell of antiseptic preceded him, filling the room.
She lifted her head from the sofa, trying to break the suffocating tension.
"you're late... I thought the operation would be over soon."
Sunoo stopped unbuttoning his sleeves. He turned his head very slowly, his gaze sharp and cold, like a scalpel examining a hopeless case.
"I didn't ask you to wait for me, and I don't care what you think."
He said it in a tone utterly devoid of emotion, harsher than a shout. She rose hesitantly.
"Sunoo, we're married now... Isn't it natural that we should at least talk?"
He approached her with measured steps until his taut body was right in front of hers. He leaned slightly forward so his eyes were directly opposite hers, without touching her, deliberately creating a tense, almost strangling presence.
"Listen to me carefully," his voice low and steady, with a chilling intensity. "This marriage is just a piece of paper to appease both families. Inside this house, you are not my wife, and you mean nothing to me. I'm a heart surgeon... I see hearts open and dead every day, so don't try to play on my emotions because I simply don't have one."
