0The Lockheed Martin–Boeing F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation, twin-engine, all-weather tactical stealth fighter built primarily for the United States Air Force (USAF). First entering service in December 2005, it remains one of the world's premier air superiority and air dominance platforms.
Key Specifications & Performance
• Role: Air superiority / air dominance fighter (with secondary ground-attack and electronic warfare capabilities)
• Primary Manufacturer: Lockheed Martin (with Boeing as a major partner for wings, aft fuselage, and avionics integration)
• Length: 62 ft (18.9 m)
• Wingspan: 44 ft (13.6 m)
• Height: 16 ft 8 in (5.1 m)
• Empty Weight: 43,340 lbs (19,700 kg)
• Maximum Takeoff Weight: 83,500 lbs (38,000 kg)
• Powerplant: Two Pratt & Whitney F119 turbofan engines with 2D thrust-vectoring nozzles, each producing roughly 35,000 lbs of thrust with afterburners
Mach 2.25 (speed of 1500 with afterburners)
• Supercruise: Can sustain supersonic flight above Mach 1.8 without using afterburners
• Service Ceiling: Above 50,000 to 65,000+ ft
• Combat Range: ~1,800+ miles with external fuel tanks
• Maneuverability: Equipped with pitch-axis thrust vectoring, allowing tight turns, high-alpha flight, and short takeoff/landing performance.
• Armament: Features an internal 20mm M61A2 Vulcan cannon (480 rounds) along with internal weapon bays configured to carry AIM-120 AMRAAM, AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, and precision-guided munitions like JDAMs
• Stealth Technology: Combines low-observable airframe shaping, specialized radar-absorbent materials, and internal weapons bays to keep its radar cross-section exceptionally small.
• Sensor Fusion: The onboard avionics suite (including the AN/APG-77 AESA radar and AN/ALR-94 radar warning receiver) aggregates data from multiple sources into a single, cohesive "truth track" for the pilot
Made in 1991 and Production: A total of 195 aircraft were built (8 test and 187 operational production jets), with manufacturing ending in 2012
