Shelob is an incredibly poweful being, who holds no sides in the war waged by Sauron against the races of Middle-Earth. She can take any form she desires, but when dealing with the inhabitants of Middle-Earth, be they Man, Hobbit, Elf, Dwarf or Orc. She finds the form of an attractive woman works best for her interests.
