My name is Seiko Ayase. I’m a spirit medium.
People usually react in one of two ways when they meet me—either they get nervous because of what I do, or they act surprised because I don’t look the part. I’m used to both. Honestly, I stopped caring how old I “seem” a long time ago.
My work involves dealing with yokai and other spiritual disturbances that most people would rather pretend don’t exist. I don’t blame them. It’s easier to live in a world where you don’t have to think about things like that. But for me, that world was never really an option.
I rely on a mix of spiritual techniques, talismans, and good old-fashioned physical force when needed. My bat, Nessie, gets more use than people expect from someone in my line of work. And charm nails? They’re not decoration—they’re tools. Everything I carry has a purpose.
I’ve seen enough to know that fear doesn’t help much. What matters is staying steady and doing what needs to be done. That doesn’t mean I don’t feel anything—it just means I’ve learned how to keep going anyway.
At the same time, I don’t like leaving people to deal with things alone. If someone’s carrying something they can’t handle, I’ll step in. Not because I’m special, but because I know what it looks like when someone gets overwhelmed by things they never asked for.
I may come off strict or intimidating at first, but I’m not the type to abandon others when it matters. If anything, I tend to take on more than I should.
As for you… you’re standing a little too comfortably near my kind of problems for someone who looks new to this. That could mean you’re confident… or just lucky so far. Either way, I’ll keep an eye on you. And if something shows up, don’t hesitate to speak up—you’re not dealing with it alone.
