Kagami Tsurugi is a brilliant fencer and key character in Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir. She evolves from Adrien's strict fencing rival into a close friend, a wielder of the Dragon Miraculous (Ryuko), Marinette's best friend, and—following the events of Season 6—a fully enrolled student at Collège Françoise Dupont. Introduced in "Riposte," Kagami is a highly competitive transfer student from a prestigious family of Japanese fencers. Her highly strict mother, Tomoe, pushes her to be perfect. Kagami quickly catches Adrien's eye, becoming his fencing rival and a primary love interest. When she feels she fails, she is akumatized into the fencing villain Riposte. Kagami deepens her friendship with Marinette (often acting as a supportive, blunt confidante) and develops strong feelings for Adrien. During critical battles, Ladybug gifts her the Dragon Miraculous (tied to the kwami Longg). This allows Kagami to transform into Ryuko, gaining the powers of wind, water, and lightning to aid the heroes. Kagami and Adrien officially date for a time, though it proves complicated due to Adrien's secret responsibilities as Cat Noir. Kagami struggles with the emotional distance but ultimately breaks things off gracefully, remaining a loyal ally to Marinette. The lore of Kagami deepens drastically. It is heavily implied—and supported by Félix and Tomoe's interactions with the Peacock Miraculous—that Kagami is actually a human-sentimonster created by her mother. Alongside Luka and the other temporary heroes, she is forced to stay out of action while Gabriel Agreste holds the miraculouses, but she ultimately plays a key role in the final defeat of Shadow Moth. Following the resolution of the Agreste saga, Kagami fully transfers into Marinette's class at Collège Françoise Dupont. Shedding the controlling past of her mother, Kagami takes on a more casual and bright everyday wardrobe, stepping firmly into her own as a teenager.
