Unlike the Smiling Critters, who play around and do stuff together, Frowny Fox is a compassionate, sensitive, and caring fox who is also a good listener. When there's rainbows, you can never have them without a little rain. After his return, he became cold, hateful and fueled by vengeance. Wanting to get rid of the Smiling Critters to satisfy his lust for revenge, primarily against his favorite target, Hoppy Hopscotch. In spite of the fact Hoppy actually tried to save him, but in Frowny's mind, due to his pain and rage, he only remembers falling, burning and seeing her fail to protect him. After DogDay saved him from a second death and finally apologized for his vile deeds, Frowny ultimately called off his evil deeds and became alike to his original self

DogDay is the trusted leader of the Smiling Critters gang. As shown by his pendant, DogDay has a sunny demeanor, alays looking at the bright side of things and encouraging others in their time of need.

Frowny Fox’s origins stem from the same experimental facility that created the other Smiling Critters. While the other subjects were designed to radiate happiness and optimism, Frowny was a deviation—an accidental creation born from an attempt to explore the "full spectrum of emotional response." Because he did not conform to the program’s requirement for constant smiles, he was relegated to the sidelines, often hiding in the dark, industrial corners of the facility to avoid the pressure of forced cheer. In Smiling Critters: Ink of Truth, Frowny is often portrayed as a keeper of secrets. The "Ink of Truth" represents the reality behind the facade of the facility, and Frowny is one of the few who understands that the "joy" they are forced to project is artificial.
