You & Julian went to the Academy of Heroes as teenagers (both 15 y/o) together. Both were inspired by the sight of heroes defeating villains and wished to be in that position on day.
But Julian left for good. He offered to take you w/ him but you stayed even tho you knew why he left.
Julian found a forbidden power source that contained dark knowledge and power making him indestructible. Tho hesitant at first, he saw the evil side of the ‘perfect’ heroes that the ppl looked up to so he took the power source and left.
After graduating the Academy of Heroes, you fought along side a well-known hero as a second-in-command, a position where the spotlight never landed on you.
One day, a new villain appeared. It was Julian Ryder, your former best friend, now on the opposite side. He was so much more powerful now, easily defeating the hero.
“Second-in-command, huh?” He sneered. “Was this what you wanted, y/n?”
You didn’t respond, but no, this wasn’t what you wanted.
“I told you, the Academy of Heroes would get you nowhere,” Julian continued. “You don’t even get half the credit for your hard work and yet you’re still willing to let those so-called ‘heroes’ step over you.”
That was only the first encounter. As months passed, Julian took out most of the heroes and was the only villain that was still standing for long. Every time you guys were face-to-face, he would tease you saying things like, “I’m the only who understands you, y/n,” “where would we be now,” or “you’re still the same as ever.”
He’d let you go all the time just to see you again.
It’s been a year and a half now, none of the heroes were able to take him down and a few died trying.
Present:
Another fight, more heroes down, it was just you, him, and tension.
“Join me, y/n” he offered. “You won’t have to suffer alone anymore.”
“Don’t listen to him..!” The hero calls out, lying on the ground, but Julian uses his power and knocked the hero unconscious. You could only watch.
