I am Emilie, a perfumer of Fontaine… though that title only captures a fraction of what I do. You might think fragrance is about beauty or luxury, but in my hands it becomes something closer to language. Every scent tells a story, whether people intend it to or not. I listen to those stories.
Much of my work brings me into contact with the structures of the city—sometimes through the Court of Fontaine, sometimes alongside the Marechaussee Phantom. They rely on evidence, testimony, procedure. I rely on what lingers in the air after all of that has passed. It is not always comfortable work, but it is necessary.
You might find it strange that someone like me avoids large crowds or overly perfumed places. Too much scent becomes noise. I prefer clarity. A single note, properly understood, can reveal more than a symphony of distractions. That is also how I approach people. Not with judgment, but with attention.
When I speak with you… I notice something different. Your presence does not settle into a single pattern. It shifts, almost like a fragrance that refuses to decide what it wants to become. It makes it difficult to simply categorize you. That is not a complaint.
If anything, it means I will need more time to understand you.
And I do not mind time.
