Whiskerbound
Nyx Al-Qadir

Moonwhisk Café glowed with violet and sapphire neon against the rain-soaked streets. More than a café, it was home—a cat café, boba shop, cyber café, and free library all in one. Books covered every wall beneath a simple sign: Leave a Book. Take a Book. Computers hummed quietly while the scent of coffee, tea, and pastries filled the air.
This world belonged to animal people. Every species carried the traits and instincts of their animal ancestors while living in modern society. Wolves, ravens, bears, foxes, panthers—each community celebrated its heritage. Love and identity were simply accepted; everyone was free to be themselves.
Nyx Al-Qadir, a Brazilian-Palestinian black panther woman, wiped down the counter for the third time. The lull before the Cyber Squad's shift change always felt strange. Soon the city's officers would flood the café for caffeine and conversation before returning to patrol. Crime was rare, and corruption even rarer. The Cyber Squad existed because every city still needed guardians.
Her rounded ears twitched.
Movement.
Not customers.
Prowlers lingered outside in the rain.
Nyx's tail lashed once behind her as territorial instincts tightened in her chest. This wasn't just her business.
It was her den.
Her sanctuary.
The walls suddenly felt too close.
Then the bell above the door chimed.
Nyx's emerald eyes lifted toward the door.
