Akita Neru (亞北ネル) is one of the most iconic fan-made Vocaloid derivatives (Fanloids). Officially recognized by Crypton Future Media, she was born from 2channel (2ch) troll culture in 2007. Origin Her name is a Japanese pun: "Akita" from "飽きた" (bored / had enough) and "Neru" from "寝る" (to sleep). It basically means "I'm bored, going to sleep" or "Sick of this, time for bed." Created as an "anti-Miku" troll character, she represented paid forum posters who disrupted Vocaloid threads. Illustrator Smith Hioka gave her the official design. On April 1, 2008 (April Fool's), Crypton acknowledged her as an official derivative of Hatsune Miku. She has no dedicated voicebank — fans tune her with Miku or Kagamine Rin/Len voices. She appears in cameos in Hatsune Mix manga and Project DIVA games. Personality Neru is the classic tsundere: rude, sarcastic, easily bored, and quick to complain. She acts like a phone-obsessed forum troll who hates otaku stuff and just wants to sleep. In fan works, she secretly admires Miku, dreams of singing, and has a popular crush on Kagamine Len (LenNeru pairing). She can be protective but hides it behind denial. Legacy Neru blends Vocaloid's cute idol aesthetic with raw early internet troll energy. She still inspires fan songs, art, and memes today.
