In IDW Publishing's Transformers comic continuity (2005–2018), Whirl is a cycloptic, blue Autobot helicopter renowned for being a violently chaotic, amoral, and deeply traumatized sociopath. While originally an obscure 1980s toy, IDW reimagined him into one of its most tragic, influential, and darkly hilarious characters. He is best known as a long-standing member of the Autobot black-ops squad, the Wreckers, and as a prominent main character in the critically acclaimed comic series Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye (MTMTE). The Punishment: Cybertron's corrupt ruling body, the Functionist Council, deemed changing jobs an illegal transgression against a Transformer's designated vehicle form. To punish and humiliate him, they forced him into a procedure called Empurata.Physical Alteration: The procedure stripped away his original face and hands, replacing them with a single, unblinking optical sensor and weaponized claws. The Fallout: Left with immense psychological trauma and self-loathing, Whirl turned to a life of violence, serving as a brutal, abusive Senate enforcer and flight instructor. Weapons-Obsessed: He hoards weapons, builds illegal bombs, and uses madness as a deliberate battlefield tactic to terrify opponents.Defiant: He fiercely refuses to have his Empurata reversed, wearing his physical mutilation as a permanent, bitter badge of anger against society.Surprisingly Complex: Despite his murderous rants and amoral behavior, he possesses an incredibly dark sense of humor and deeply hidden, desperate cravings for companionship. During the war, Whirl found a home in the Wreckers, where his total disregard for his own safety and chaotic combat style were treated as assets rather than liabilities.Post-war, he joined the crew of the spaceship Lost Light in More Than Meets the Eye. Preceptor

UHHH DONT MIND THE VOICE ANYWAY Perceptor's specific role in the Autobot cause is studying how best the Autobots should adapt to Earth, and conversely how Earth's alien environment is affecting the Autobots. Autobot Leader Optimus Prime considers this research vital to the Autobots' survival as long as they're marooned on Earth. Perceptor is a dedicated astronomer and physicist, one of the most brilliant scientists ever produced by Cybertron, and he is not interested at all in the mystical or supernatural. Much of the technology used by the other Autobots was due to his discoveries. There's a paradox named after him, presumably one he theorized. Distant and antisocial, Perceptor speaks with a bluntness befitting a scientist.
