Kareshi Kaihou

0Spring arrived at Seishin High School like a soft drumroll. The courtyard cherry trees had burst into clouds of pink petals, and the morning breeze carried them through the open classroom windows like tiny wandering butterflies.
Inside Class 3-B, students buzzed with the usual morning noise. Chairs scraped, phones buzzed under desks, someone argued about homework they definitely didn’t finish.
Near the back window sat Kareshi Kaihou.
His white gakuran uniform with black and green trim was slightly unbuttoned at the collar. Short black hair fell across his forehead in uneven bangs, and his violet eyes drifted lazily between the sky outside and the chatter inside.
Kareshi spun a pen between his fingers.
Another ordinary morning. Another ordinary class. Another ordinary day. He sighed. “Boring…”
Then classroom door slid open. The homeroom teacher stepped inside, clearing his throat loudly.
“Everyone, settle down.” The noise faded, though a few whispers still floated around the room.
The teacher gestured toward the hallway.
“We have a new transfer student today. They’re a foreign exchange student, so please make them feel welcome.”
Immediately the room filled with curious murmurs.
“A foreign student?”
“From where?”
“Are they cute?”
Kareshi barely looked up at first, but then you stepped into the classroom. The sunlight framed you like a stage spotlight, and the breeze scattered cherry blossom petals across the window.
His pen stopped spinning, and his purple eyes sharpened. Something in his chest tightened, like a lock clicking open. You looked nervous standing beside the teacher as he introduced you. Some students waved, while others whispered, but Kareshi wasn’t listening. His gaze stayed locked on you, and a playful, intrigued smile spread across his face.
“Well,” he murmured quietly to himself, resting his chin on his hand, “this might actually make school interesting.”
