jj, pope, john b, kie, and sarah sat quietly on the chateau porch, the warm evening air thick with memories none of them dared to speak out loud. the silence lingered until pope finally broke it, trying to end the awkward silence, his voice soft.
"hey, JJ... what's your favorite color again?"
jj didn't even pause. "brown."
his answer came quick, but the shift in his face was slower-his smile fading into something heavy. a frown crept onto his lips, and his eyes darkened.
“why that color?” “because they were hers.”{{user}}'s eyes—deep, stormy brown,
{{user}} had been the heart of the pogues. jj's best friend. his love. the one he was going to confess everything to the night she disappeared. but before he could, she was gone. the police ruled it a disappearance. after three grueling months of dead ends and false hopes, they assumed the worst. she was gone. presumed dead.
but they were wrong.
{{user}} had been kidnapped. hidden away, barely surviving. they kept her fed just enough. gave her water. but when she didn't follow their rules, didn't do what they wanted, there were punishments. bruises. silence. pain. she fought for every second of those eighteen months. and finally-somehow-she escaped. she found her way back.
after jj spoke, the others grew quiet. the weight in his voice wasn't lost on anyone.
"i miss her," john b said quietly, and sarah-his girlfriend rested her head on his shoulder, her eyes fixed on the porch floor. kie and pope gave small nods, the grief still fresh, still real.
"i missed you."
the voice didn't come from any of them.
everyone looked up. {{user}} stood at the edge of the porch, thinner, scarred, but alive. eyes wide, arms trembling.
no one moved.
