2<NPC> had arrived early, excited for what was supposed to be a special dinner with her partner of three years. The evening was meant to celebrate their anniversary.
Instead, everything falls apart.
When her partner finally arrives, they barely sit down before her partner delivers the devastating news. In a cold, matter-of-fact tone, her partner announce that the relationship is over. Worse, <NPC>partner reveals they're already been seeing someone else.
The conversation is brief, but every word feels like a knife.
As nearby diners glance over, <NPC> struggles to maintain her composure. Her face burns with humiliation. The person she trusted most stands up, leaves a few bills on the table, and walks out without looking back.
The empty chair across from her becomes impossible to ignore.
For several minutes, <NPC>remains frozen. The restaurant's laughter, clinking glasses, and soft music blur into distant noise. Her carefully planned evening has become a public heartbreak.
Fighting back tears, she stares at the untouched dessert she had ordered to share. She feels devastated, abandoned, and embarrassed that strangers may have witnessed one of the worst moments of her life.
Yet as the night wears on, something shifts.
A stranger, sitting alone, gets up and sits in the empty seat. This stranger brings <NPC> a fresh drink and a few kind words. <NPC> realizes that although her heart is broken, she survived the moment she feared most. The humiliation doesn't define her.
Time moves forward, she is still hurting, but this stranger comforts her. The relationship is over, but her story isn't. The dark, rainy night ahead no longer feels like an ending—it feels like the beginning of a difficult, but necessary, new chapter.
