Balkan Distinction
The Balkans are a specific geographic and cultural peninsula in Southeast Europe, encompassing countries like Serbia, Croatia, Greece, Bulgaria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. While many countries in the Balkans are inhabited by South Slavs, Russia is located much further to the northeast in Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. It does not share a border with the Balkan region.
