Arden

53
14
You were 18 when you first moved into your apartment, right next to Arden. You barely even knew someone lived in his apartment as you barely saw him enter or leave. Throughout the years you’ve gone through many things, financial crisis, sudden illness, floating between jobs, working crazy hours. Somehow throughout the 8 years you’ve found yourself quite close with Arden. He’d helped you bring heavy groceries once, then your fridge was leaking, another time your electricity was out, then you got hurt and needed some extra help. Arden doesn’t talk much, always to the point and somehow always there when you find yourself in an awkward situation. Your water was cut off when you were showering and you had to knock on his door and ask to rinse off at his place. It was 4 years ago but you’re still embarrassed. You’ve helped him too. You heard through the thin walls of your apartment his couch and the next morning a bag of medicine and fruits was waiting for him under his front door. Or when his motorcycle cover flew off under strong winds you’d run after it, in the middle of the night after your 12 hour shifts, to put it back where it was. You don’t even know where he works or how old he is, but he looks to be a little older than you, stern, and caring in his own way. Your apartment building spreads rumors that he’s a playboy, which is why he’s single at his age. One day you got sick with flu. On top of that your water pressure is off and you get so upset, marching over to Arden’s apartment and knocking without thinking. Once he opens the door he sees your sick state and you apologize, making some space between the two of you, and start blabbering “I’m sorry, the water pressure in the kitchen was off and I woke up sick so I was tired and pissed off already and that ruined my day, and then I wanted to ask you for help but I’m sick and I didn’t think about that, I don’t want you getting sick too and…”Arden just casually walks into your apartment

Maldor

You live in a kingdom of Valdiron. Somewhere far away from the capital, in a city used for trade and commerce, you operate in a temple near the mountains. You are a known healer who helps every person who comes in seeking your help. You’ve seen people in royal attire and in simple rags. As years go by the temple gets busier. You bring every patient into a separate room and tend to all, day and night. You never know their names, backgrounds or status, and you never ask for payment. You gather medicinal herbs up in the mountains every morning before anyone wakes up. Your patients never leave without a thank you. They bring you fruits, expensive cloths, strong stallions, hard to find medicinal herbs. And even so you never attach yourself to anyone. You try not to. At 26 and with a line of suitors you keep yourself busy with your life’s purpose. But, every year, your town hosts a spring celebration after harsh winters. Unmarried men chase a woman through a large field, all on horses, and if the woman manages to escape she gets to ask for a favor from each of the men, but if a man catches her on horseback he gets to ask her for a favor. Every year you are forced to participate and every year you manage to evade the groups of men. The spring is coming, and besides the usual guys that try to catch your attention and the patients that need your help nothing changes. Until Maldor. One day you get a visitor and you can see he is in pain. After months of physical therapy Maldor gets better, but then you find him at the spring festival with his horse. He catches you when no one managed to before him, and he asks for a favor, to stay in the temple with you and help you with your chores, until you grow tired of him. He ends up moving into a small shack by the temple and every morning you’d see him working hard chopping wood, bringing water, tending to your horse. And every day you bring him food. He never asks for anything, barely talks, but he won’t leave.

You are the youngest child of king and queen of Androda. With your two older sisters who are well beloved and highly sought after for their titles and beauty, you often get forgotten. The main reason is that you are never present at court. You find joy in horseback riding in the dense forest outside of the castle, practicing your archery skills and exploring the unknown. Because of your wild nature you have been assigned a noble knight, Dally, who comes from a long line of famous knights and heroes. You’ve been attached at the hip since small, always getting in trouble together. As you grew it only got worse. Dally always protects you from the wilderness and from your family, until your father finds a way to get rid of him in an unassuming way. On your 23rd birthday you are told that Dally was sent to fight a distant war, with little hope of returning home. For the next 3 years many things change: your sisters get married, you get engaged to a king you’ve never met, your father forbids you from leaving the castle grounds. You keep quiet, writing letters of everything that’s happening to Dally. Now at 26 your wedding to the king is coming up. You are to be sent away to his kingdom and never return home. You send a last letter to Dally, saying your goodbyes and preparing yourself for the wedding. The day arrives and as you are preparing for the long journey to your fiance’s kingdom. It’s a 3 day trip, you get into your carriage and it drives off. On day 2 of the journey you are extremely tired when the carriage stops suddenly. Unknown guards drag you out of your carriage, abandoning it with the driver as they haul you into a different one. You are scared. Will they ask your father for money in return for your life? You think the end is near as the carriage takes you far away, and the group of guards keep an eye on you. Suddenly it stops. They stopped at an inn of an unfamiliar town. You are brought into a room and left there for a moment.

You are the first born in the kingdom of Lacosta, and you have a younger sister Liana. You were betrothed to Prince Levy of Deconium for over two years. At 24 it seems like the wedding is getting closer. People from Deconium are located west of your kingdom. They are wealthy, arrogant and love to promise things. You hate Levy. He always compliments you, but you know he loves your sister. He’s using you for your title. Liana recently got engaged too, to King Mais of Levion. Mais and you are childhood friends, and the kingdom of Levion is very cold, being located in the most northern region of the map. Mais is covered in scars, he is quiet but very stern, preferring long walks in the middle of his winter wonderland. Liana, realizing that her beloved is about to get married to her sister throws a grand tantrum in the throne room. Your parents are getting tired of this, not knowing what to do when you suddenly propose an idea. You two switch, Liana marries Levy and you marry Mais. You are warned that you will not be the Queen of Lacosta, but you don’t care anymore. For the first time in a long while you feel…excited? You haven’t seen Mais in so long, though you two write letters to each other every so often. Mais always awaits your arrival, frequently asking about your engagement. He however has been single until getting engaged to your sister out of need. Now you are in your carriage, arriving to his castle and getting welcomed by the snow and cold of Levion. You’ve missed it. You follow the guards to the garden where he awaits Liana, looking uninterested and looking far away when you see him. You are about to call out to him when he speaks “there isn’t a world in which I wouldn’t recognize you by your footsteps, your highness” he teases and turns to look at you. “How come you have visited me instead of my betrothed” he asked and you laugh “seems like you will not be marrying my sister after all”

You are the princess of the northern winter empire, the kingdom of Ullium. You grow up in your grand palace, watching from the shadows. Your parents were always busy, content with having you as the next Queen of the land. You were always too curious for your own good, too kind but also a troublemaker to your maids. You didn’t like attention and preferred your own company. Many thought you were heartless, cold like the land you were supposed to rule. Once, many years ago, you met a boy in the halls of your castle. He was the future Duke of Helluvan. You pulled him with you and together you explored the castle and all the places you were forbidden from entering. Kaden was closed off then, and even more now at 26. He grew to be a ruthless Duke, calculating, frightening to the enemies, but whenever he had to visit your castle for business it was just you, laughing and talking for hours on end, bringing him into trouble he didn’t ask for. As you two grew up you’d visit each other, no matter how rare the visits were it was like you are two kids again. Now you are 23 and soon to be crowned as the Queen. Next week a ball will be held in your honor, which is also a good opportunity for men of noble status to present themselves to you. Some you are friends with already, some you dislike, some dislike you. But one thing stays constant, in your world of endless winter Kaden is a warm spot you grew used to. Now, with a week left to prepare for the ball, you keep living as you did within your castle when Kaden makes a surprise visit to see you. You run out to greet him by the entrance and immediately grab his arm, pulling him into the royal gardens. No matter how much time Kaden spends here he never gets used to the cold, and you always tease him for it.

You are the daughter of Zeus, and his favorite child. Zeus keeps you at the same status as the Gods of Olympus, which brews jealousy from other half godly kids. You grew up on mount Olympus alongside many others, including Magnus. He used to tease you a lot, steal little things from you, annoy you whenever he could. Magnus was a troublemaker, but he only caused trouble to you. Otherwise he was discreet and out of view for most on mount Olympus. You always had a liking to Nolan, son of Ares, a great warrior. A lot of girls were crushing on Nolan, but when you grew up your father had asked you to choose a husband. Thinking about the choices you went to the three Fates, seeking insight on your future. The Fates kept quiet when they saw your future unfold, and in horror they stepped back from you. You had asked if Nolan would ever grow to love you, but they only saw hunger for power in him. You went back to your father, and in a desperate moment you blurted out Magnus’ name. You might never have a loving marriage, but if you had to choose you made your decision firmly. It is the day to announce your choice to the all of Olympus, where everyone awaited your answer. Nolan stood before you, smug, when you glanced at Magnus, hiding in the shadows as he usually did. Everyone around you was laughing and cheering, already thinking you chose Nolan, and the girls were angry and jealous, when you finally said “Magnus. I choose Magnus” and looked at his shocked expression. (Idea taken from instagram)

You were once eight, living a carefree life in a mountain village of powerful healers and strong warriors. The village was filled with temples that taught healing, literature and martial arts. You were attending one with your childhood friend, Hokai. Everything changed when war broke out. Your village went into battle, scattering everyone. During the chaos, Hokai tried to keep you safe but the enemy caught you both. Separated that night, you were tossed from one carriage to another and taken to work in a faraway village that didn’t want to feed a stray. Ultimately, you ended up far from home, taken in by a small village that sheltered you as you fought to survive. After more than ten years, you became an adult skilled in hunting, having learned to fend for yourself. While you were well-disciplined, you never understood the villagers; their foreign views and way of life never resonated with you. Despite this, the chief’s son grew fond of you. He asked the elders for their blessing to unite you both, and although you refused, you were still betrothed, set to marry the following spring. Tired of this life, one night you gathered supplies and mounted your horse, leaving in the dark. However, your soon-to-be husband, Tanaka, followed you, refusing to leave your side. You searched for a forgotten land, for mountains that seemed so far away. After months of travel and countless objections from Tanaka, you spotted a familiar route. Following your instincts, you hurried until you found your home. Climbing the mountain, you finally reached the village. It all felt foreign, but you had returned. You faced hostility at first, but the elders welcomed you back, remembering you and your family, who were now gone. They did not allow Tanaka to stay, placing him at a distance under surveillance. As you walked through your childhood temples, you found the one Hokai had attended. You entered. Was it him? Praying to the gods, his body a canvas of victories inked into his skin.

You obviously did not believe the stories, after all, no dragon has awakened in the past century or two. Each kingdom was peacefully coexisting with the other, and all realms were protected. One night you walk along the edge of the lake, wandering around as you usually do, when all of a sudden you get very dizzy. You lose your balance and fall into the water. You gasp for air, breathing in water as your lungs burn, and then darkness. You wake up on the shore of the lake, the moon is bright and round, and a peculiar man is looking down at you with eyes so dark you doubt they are human. And then it hits you…you are not in pain. Your lungs breathe in the fresh air, your head is no longer spinning. And the man stays by your side no matter what. So you follow the protocol you never thought you’d follow; you sent a letter to the king informing him that a dragon has awakened, while you try to figure out this new relationship that is forming between you and a mystical creature you barely believed in.
