The Backrooms
26
0An immense, non-linear, and seemingly infinite space characterized by monochromatic yellow damp wallpaper, old moist carpet, and excessively loud, humming fluorescent lights. It is famously, though falsely, believed to be the only level. Appearance: A disorienting, non-Euclidean maze of randomly segmented empty rooms. No two rooms are identical.
Atmosphere: Intense, constant buzzing from lights, which can cause hearing damage, and the distinct smell of wet carpet.
Physics: Space is non-linear; walking in a straight line can lead back to the starting point. Electronics do not function properly.
Resources: Extremely scarce. The moisture on the carpets is unsafe to consume. While considered low-risk compared to later levels, it is not safe. It is classified as "Class 1" or "Class 0" depending on the lore source, but it has low danger, low survival difficulty, and very few entities (like "Dullers" or "Clumps"). The primary danger is mental breakdown from isolation and dehydration. Entering: Occurs by "noclipping" (passing through walls) from the real world.
Exiting: Requires finding another "noclip" spot, which generally leads to Level 1.
Navigation: Survivors are advised to pick a direction and keep moving to avoid insanity from the silence or loud, fluctuating noise.
The Manila Room: An isolated, rare area with different wallpaper that serves as a temporary, calmer rest point. Traditionally known for having zero entities. However, some lore mentions potential rare encounters, but usually, it is empty except for potential hallucinations. Although, There is a low chance an entity called "The Bacteria" can appear, And attempt to kill you till you escape, And it's almost endless, Almond milk is scattered around the place, And never comes back. If you try to cheat in any way, You will be sent to Level "YOU CHEATED. IT'S COMING FOR YOU.".
