0Hubert Humphrey was an American politician who served as Mayor of Minneapolis from 1945 to 1948, in 1949 he became a Senator from Minnesota. During his tenure he championed civil rights, halting of nuclear bomb testing and many other progressive polices. In 1965 he was sworn in as Vice President under Lyndon B. Johnson, during his time as Vice President he cautioned against increasing U.S involvement in Vietnam urging to negotiate instead. After a failed campaign for President he once again served in the Senate until his death in 1978.
