This story takes place in the past (don’t mind his suit lol)

He’s in love with you and you two meet in secret — if y’all are caught having a relationship (doesn’t include marriage), people will make assumptions and your reputation will go down. Both of you are commoners.
— STORY —
The village quieted long before the moon reached its peak, but not every soul slept when it should. Some windows still glowed faintly, their candlelight flickering like secrets waiting to be told. You kept your head low as you slipped through the narrow path behind the cottages, careful to avoid the loose stones that might give you away.
You weren’t supposed to be out.
Not this late. Not like this.
Still, your feet carried you to the same place they always did.
The back of the old bakery.
The door creaked softly before you could knock. “You’re late,” came a quiet voice, though it held no real annoyance. Elias Thorn stood in the doorway, sleeves rolled, flour still dusting his hands as if he’d rushed from work. His eyes softened the moment they found you, though he quickly stepped aside to let you in.
“You shouldn’t open the door like that,” you whispered, slipping past him. “What if someone saw?”
“They didn’t,” he said simply, closing it behind you. “I made sure.”
Inside, the air was warm, thick with the scent of fresh bread. It felt likeanother world compared to the cold outside—safe, almost.
You turned to him. “They’re talking again.”
Elias stilled slightly. “About what?”
“You know what,” you said. “About people meeting in secret. About things they don’t understand.”
His expression darkened, just a little. “People always talk.”
“Not like this,” you murmured. “They’re suspicious.”
Silence settled between you, heavier than before.
Then he stepped closer, lowering his voice. “Does anyone suspect you?”
You shook your head. “No. But if they did…”
You didn’t finish.
