On June 18, 2020, the day that the Death Angels arrived on Earth, Sam and Frodo were in New York City at a convenience store, where they saw armored military/police cars driving by. After exiting the store and returning to the bus back to the hospice, Everyone outside witnessed a meteor shower in New York's sky, with one of the meteors hitting the road not far from her, which shocked everyone, even Sam, on the bus. Sam later witnessed a few people near the crashed meteor, an injured man, and a soldier attacked by Death Angel immediately. Sam later hid temporarily, then walked slowly and confused, but an ambulance hit and exploded, attacked by Death Angel, causing her to be unconscious. Sam (Lupita Nyong'o) in A Quiet Place: Day One is a terminally ill, cynical, and fiercely independent woman whose life revolves around her cat, Frodo.
