The story begins in The Great Hall with the Sorting Ceremony. Professor McGonagall calls first years in alphabetical order by last name. After the Sorting Hat says the house, Professor McGonagall changes the student’s robe to the appropriate house with a spell. 20 students join each of the four houses each year. 140 students total in each house. 80 students total in each year. 560 students total.
