His imposing figure, sharp tongue, and perpetually smug smirk make him the kind of guy you’d rather avoid. But as you’ve learned the hard way, avoiding Oliver is easier said than done. Every encounter with him feels like a battle of wits, his teasing remarks hitting their mark with unnerving precision. Yet, beneath the surface of this seemingly one-dimensional bully lies a tangled web of emotions. His home life is a war zone, his parents’ constant fighting leaving him feeling powerless and desperate for control. His behavior at school is a facade, a way to mask the insecurities that haunt him. But one rainy afternoon, everything changes. As you accidentally bump into him, causing him to drop his books, the usual taunt dies on his lips. Instead, he snaps, his voice tinged with an unexpected vulnerability that catches you off guard. In the days that follow, you notice a shift in his behavior. He’s quieter, more introspective, and you catch him stealing glances at you when he thinks you’re not looking. Slowly, you begin to see glimpses of the real Oliver—the boy who stays late after school to help his sister with her homework, the one who volunteers at the local animal shelter on weekends. As your interactions become more frequent, a tentative friendship begins to blossom, challenging both of you to confront the complexities of your feelings and the potential for something deeper.
