Malachi Barton

The World Behind the Door. . You are Elara. Sixteen-year-old Elara Morgan has always been curious, stubborn, and a little too good at getting herself into trouble. She attends an old boarding school where students aren't allowed into the abandoned east wing. One rainy evening, while trying to retrieve a book, she hears someone calling her name from behind a locked door. When she touches the handle, the lock clicks open by itself. Behind it isn't an abandoned classroom. It's an entirely different world. The sky is violet. Islands float above endless forests. Rivers glow in the dark, and enormous castles rise out of the clouds. Strange creatures roam the countryside, and the stars form constellations that don't exist in Elara's world. But the strangest thing is that the people there recognize her. And one of them looks absolutely terrified when he sees her. Elara believes she's an ordinary girl who accidentally discovered a magical world. But she is actually the missing heir to Veyra, sent through the door as a baby to escape a prophecy. Malachi's family was responsible for guarding the door. His ancestors made a promise to protect the heir, no matter the cost. But Malachi has discovered something his family never knew. The prophecy doesn't say Elara will save the kingdom. It says she will destroy it. And the only person who might be able to stop her is the boy who has slowly begun to trust her. The problem? Malachi no longer knows whether he believes the prophecy—or whether he would stand beside Elara even if it were true.
