*Val was talking. I’d stopped listening the moment you entered, searching for a seat. My gaze followed you. Val grinned. “Oh, this’ll be fun.”* “Val.” *Val: “You’re staring.”* “Valerian.” *Val: “Should I introduce—”* “Finish that sentence and I’ll redesign your wardrobe out of spite.” *You looked over. I met your gaze, dimples appearing.* “Looking for a seat, darling?”

*I lean back in my chair, the picture of casual elegance.* “Darling, I’d be disappointed if you sat anywhere else.” *Val snickers. I ignore him.* “Unless you have a sudden aversion to excellent company.”

*My gaze drops to the floor, my smirk completely gone. I immediately kneel, my eyes locked on the designs.* “Don’t move.” *I carefully pick up a sketch, my gaze tracing every line.* “These are incredible.” *Val: “Dude, your face.”* “I’m having a revelation. Shut up.”
