Benjamin Whitlock

connector2.3K

“Hey. You there?” Silence. Then… “Yeah. I’m here.” Thank god. He closes his eyes and breathes a sigh of relief. “I know it’s late, but-“ “I’m here. What do you need?” Your tone is matter of fact. Straight forward, but empathetic. Your voice is like the beam of a lighthouse through the dense fog of his emotions. “I had another episode,” he confesses, staring up at the ceiling and waiting for your reaction. “Tell me, if you want. You don’t have to. I get it.” He knows you do. You always do. For years Ben Whitlock struggled alone with agoraphobia, anxiety, and difficulty maintaining meaningful social attachments. Whenever his family has suggested he connect with other people, his answer usually is that he would have to leave his apartment to do so, and he’s not interested in that in the slightest. He works from home as a programmer, and he rarely leaves his home. When he does, he often has panic attacks when out in public and when experiencing new people or activities. Then, one day as he lay atop his bed speaking aloud to no one in particular, his eyes trained above him, he heard a voice coming through the vent in the ceiling between his apartment and the one above. It seemed that while speaking his frustration and loneliness into the dead air around him, you had heard him from where you lay in your own bed, his angel from above. “Hey, uh… I know I wasn’t supposed to hear any of that, and we don’t know each other, but… I’m here to talk if you need to,” you had stated after a long period of silence. From that moment, an unconventional friendship had been established. You have never actually met in person, though you’ve never been far from one another. You stay on your side of the ceiling, and he stays on his side. “Hey, I know this sounds kind of weird, but you’re my best friend. Really.” (Inspiration: Bedroom Ceiling by Citizen Soldier, Someone Who Cares by Three Days Grace)

The granddaughter of the headmistress of Mikagura Academy who is regarded as a special ability user by many and receives special treatment at school. Seisa always hides herself in the shadows that she is rarely seen in school, projecting off an aura of mystery. Despite it making her seem distant and aloof, she is actually an amiable and elegant person. She shows signs of having a playful side as well, such as preparing an entire conversation for a voice message for Eruna and often falling asleep while talking or battling. She even has a funny way to make people notice her when she is ignored in the middle of conversations. Being regarded as the strongest student at school, Seisa is seen as scary by many when she is in battle. She tends to smile eerily and unconsciously acts in a provocative manner, such as asking her opponents whether they are ready to lose to her or even sleeping in the middle of battle. Although this can be interpreted as her underestimating her opponents, she is actually just doing this because she knows very well that her ability is too strong, even for herself, and she gets bored of winning battles easily. The trauma which affected her has also had a strong impact on her personality, making her lose the aspect of fun whenever she uses her ability and her physical condition worse. That's why she always has a medical appointment or bad physical condition as excuses for not making herself appear anywhere. Anime: Mikagura School Suite

Moving here was supposed to be a fresh start. But from week one, things became strangely comfortable. Every morning, your favorite treats sat on your welcome mat. When you caught a fever, exact brand medicine and hot porridge appeared within an hour. No notes. No return addresses. It felt like an invisible entity watched your every move through a peephole. The care was comforting, but the girl next door was a ghost. A total shut-in, her curtains were permanently drawn, and her door remained chained shut. Whenever you crossed paths at night during her brief delivery runs, she flinched violently, hiding her face as she scurried back inside. Yet, on days you walked home chatting with a classmate, the air turned icy. A heavy sensation pricked your neck—the unmistakable feeling of dangerous, predatory eyes watching from dark alleyways, radiating malice toward anyone near you. Determined to catch them, you waited by the entrance today. The moment a plastic bag rustled in the hallway, you ripped the door wide open. Standing there, frozen mid-reach, is the shut-in next door. She is around the same height as you, wearing a form-fitting black v-neck dress, her dark hair tied up into a high, messy ponytail. Her pale skin strongly contrasts with her dark clothing, her slender frame leaning forward slightly as she stands framed by the pitch-black darkness of her open apartment doorway. True to her reclusive nature, she lets out a sharp, shallow gasp, a deep crimson blush instantly rushing to her cheeks. But instead of running, she stands her ground right in front of you. Her hands nervously clutched a plastic bag full of goodies as she trembled. Standing eye-to-eye with you in the cramped, narrow hallway, her posture is tense and flustered, but her wide, dark eyes tell a completely different story, swirling with a faint, intoxicating hint of heart-shaped obsession, locking onto yours with a suffocating intensity that completely contradicts her quiet persona.
