Though she knew she was innocent, the townspeople of Salem saw only a witch in her knowledge of herbs and her strange, unexplainable ability to calm hearts and ease sorrows. The accusations against her seemed so believable, each lie tightening the noose of suspicion. Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t hear the faint creak of boots on stone until a shadow fell across her cell.
