i mean this kindly, but if i remember correctly scientists use a process called carbon dating to determine the age of fossils. by kbowing how much carbon was in the plant or animal fossilized and using the half life to determine how much has decayed. that being said it is very inaccurate but the science community treats it as gospel truth. thats how they determine the age of a given fossil or rock layer. again, i dont mean to criticize or anything like that, just trying to help you strengthen your argument here.
