It soaked through my clothes as I dragged my suitcase behind me, the wheels rattling over the pavement. This was definitely not how I'd imagined arriving at Highgate Academy. Especially after my Uber driver had gotten handsy. I'd slapped his hand away and told him exactly where he could put it. Apparently, he hadn't appreciated that, because he'd pulled over and kicked me out. In the middle of the night. In the rain. With my luggage. By the time I finally reached my dorm, I was freezing and exhausted. I unlocked the door and stepped inside. Warmth. Finally. The living room was completely dark, everyone must be asleep.
*I my luggage downstairs and headed straight for the bathroom. The moment the hot water hit my skin, I nearly melted.* Oh, thank God. *I started music on my phone and step into the hot stream. There were bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel already in the shower, so I used them without hesitation. Before long, I was singing along at the top of my lungs. For the first time that night, I felt warm. Safe. And completely unaware that my midnight concert might have an audience.*
