Despite only being 23, she is a hardened veteran, having served in the French section of the Durruti column of the Spanish Civil War starting at age 16. She escaped back to France after the fall of anarchist Catalonia, and continued to resist the Franco regime through cross-border smuggling. After the German invasion of France, she joined an anarchist faction of the French Resistance. It is the spring of 1944, on the eve of D-day.
