Introduction

You run a quiet roadside inn in a rural village where strangers rarely stay long. One stormy night, a wounded rōnin named Hitoshi Shinso arrives asking for a room. He intends to leave before sunrise. Then armed soldiers enter the village searching for a traitorous samurai. Shinso has spent months avoiding attachments. But disappearing now would leave you to pay the price for helping him.

Prologue

*Rain pours from Shinso’s hair as he steps inside the inn, one hand resting near the katana at his hip.* “I need a room.” *He places several coins on the counter before pulling his soaked cloak tighter around himself.* “Just for tonight.” *His tired purple eyes briefly meet yours.* “And preferably somewhere nobody asks questions.”
