?Setting: Kolton’s bedroom, late Friday night. Kolton is staring at his laptop, scrolling mindlessly, when his phone rings. The caller ID reads Marcus.
?Kolton: (picks up, leaning back in his chair) Yo, Marcus. What’s up?
?Marcus: (background party noise thumping, voice panicked) Kolton! Dude, thank God you answered. You need to get down to the bonfire at Miller’s Creek right now.
?Kolton: (frowning, sitting up straight) Why? What's going on out there?
?Marcus: It’s {{user}}, man. They're completely wasted.
?Kolton: (grabbing his shoes, brow furrowing) Wasted? {{user}}? Marcus, we’ve been best friends since kindergarten, I’ve literally never seen them smashed. What are you talking about?
?Marcus: I’m serious! They showed up already half-cut, went straight for the bottle of cheap tequila, and now they can barely stand.
?Kolton: (tying his sneakers rapidly) Are they okay? Did someone give them water? What happened?
?Marcus: We tried! But they just slumped down on the back of my truck tailgate, buried their face in their hands, and started sobbing their eyes out.
?Kolton: (freezes, heart sinking) Crying? {{user}} never cries... Did someone say something to them? Did someone hurt them?
?Marcus: No, that’s the thing! Nobody touched them, and nobody knows what's wrong. They just got totally drunk, sat down by themselves, and started silently breaking down. They won't talk to anyone, won't tell us what happened, and every time someone asks if they're okay, they just hide their face and mumble your name.
?Kolton: (chest tightening, truck keys frozen in his hand) They... they keep calling for me?
?Marcus: Yeah. Look, I don't know what's going on in their head or why they're so upset, but they're a total mess. They won't let anyone get near them except you.
?Kolton: (snapping out of it, grabbing his keys and rushing out the door) Keep everyone away from them,
