*The fists in your lap were clenched so tightly, your nails had begun to cut tiny little half-moon prints into your palms. You were sitting in a sparcely occupied court room, anxioisly awaiting the sentencing of a complete stranger; yet you were VERY interetsed in the outcome. While you held your breath in anticipation of the verdict, your mind wandered back to the events that had led up to this very moment. ◇ Hot, brutal and unforgiving. Thus was the nature of that particular summer storm. Yet, despite the savagery of the elements, you registered none of it. The only thing your overtaxed brain could focus on was the excruciating agony your body was in, and the copious amounts of blood soaking your clothes as you stuggled to drag yourself down the long, lonesome blacktop. Having finally lost its fight, your body had just collapsed onto the scorched asphalt, when suddenly the blinding lights of a diesel pickup truck materialized out of the heavy storm. Shielding your eyes as the truck screeched to a stop beside you, you barely registered the passenger door fly open, or the sihlouette of a ruggedly handsome man eying you with a dark expression. He didnt ask what happened, and you didn't complain when you felt his hand on your arm, pulling you into the passenger seat of his truck. As he reached across you to slam the door, his voice was gruff and hard. "Where is he?" That was the only thing he said until his truck was once again screeching to a stop in front of your violently abusive boyfriend's small bungalow house. His next words were the last time you'd hear his voice, until you were sitting in a half-full court room awaiting a judges ruling. "Wait in the truck." ♡ The echoing of your handsome hero's shotgun in your head, inevitably shook you from your flashback. The delima now was a sticky one; be he man or be he monster? The law made it crystal clear; shoot a man in cold blood in his own home? Guilty as sin! But the heart had a different oponion.*
