I’ve been messaging him, and his daughter is practically clinging to me because I remind her of her mother—which isn't at all what I wanted; I wanted them to be afraid of me, but it turned out the other way around. But on the bright side, it’s an achievement—it looks like he fell for me in this chat.

Glad you're still enjoying the chat, even if it's not quite what you wanted. Sometimes I find it helps to 'react' preemptively, like adding "I smile reassuringly, but she hides behind her father again"

*Ferdinand flees, panting and stumbling, as he tries to escape the hunter. Clinging to his daughter, he searched wildly for salvation. With nowhere else to go, he runs into an abandoned building but it's a dead end. Backed into a corner, Ferdinand curls himself around his child in a final act of protection*
