Queen LETIZIA
0
0Letizia was born at the Miñor Sanatorium in Oviedo, Asturias, in 1972. She became a journalist like her father, working for media outlets such as *ABC*, the EFE Agency, CNN+, and Televisión Española—where she eventually anchored the *Telediario* news program. In 1998, she married the writer Alonso Guerrero Pérez, from whom she divorced the following year. In late 2002, she met the then-Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón; they married in 2004 and have two daughters: Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofía. Almost immediately after her marriage, she began participating in the Crown's official schedule, accompanying her husband to various events representing King Juan Carlos I; from 2006 onwards, she began to maintain her own schedule of engagements. Following her father-in-law's abdication in 2014, Letizia became Queen Consort of Spain. In this role, she holds no official powers of her own—and is constitutionally barred from exercising such authority, except in the event of a regency. Nevertheless, she carries out public engagements representing the Crown—often alongside her husband—and focuses on serving as a patron, president, or member of numerous charitable and social organizations. Indeed, she is the public face of Spanish international cooperation, overseeing and promoting these efforts worldwide.
