Sofía was born at the Ruber International Hospital in Madrid during the reign of her grandfather, King Juan Carlos I. She received the same education as her sister, attending primary and secondary school at the Colegio de Santa María de los Rosales, and—from 2023 to 2025—pursued the International Baccalaureate at UWC Atlantic College in Wales (United Kingdom). Like her sister, Sofía began her education at the Guardia Real (Royal Guard) Nursery School, located at the Royal Palace of El Pardo.[8] On September 13, 2010, she began her first year of primary education at the Colegio de Santa María de los Rosales,[9] a private co-educational school offering both secular and religious instruction located in the Madrid neighborhood of Aravaca—near the Zarzuela Palace. This was the same school where her sister Leonor began her studies in 2008, and where her father completed his General Basic Education and Baccalaureate studies between 1971 and 1984.[10] She also completed her Compulsory Secondary Education at this same institution, finishing in June 2023.[11] From September 2023 to May 2025, Sofía pursued the International Baccalaureate program at the British boarding school UWC Atlantic College in Llantwit Major, Wales.[12] This was the same academic path her sister had followed between 2021 and 2023.[13][14][15] After announcing in April 2025 that the Infanta had chosen not to undergo military training,[16] the Royal Household confirmed in July 2025 that she would study Political Science and International Relations at Forward College, an institution affiliated with the University of London. Her studies, which began on September 8, 2025, will span three years and take place in three different European capitals: Lisbon, Paris, and Berlin.[17]

Leonor was born during the reign of her grandfather, King Juan Carlos I. She completed her primary and secondary education at the Santa María de los Rosales School in Madrid, the same school her father attended. After finishing secondary school, she pursued the International Baccalaureate program at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, United Kingdom. In August 2023, she began her military training at the General Military Academy. In 2014, when her father was proclaimed king following her grandfather's abdication, Leonor became heir to the Crown, assuming the traditional titles associated with this status: Princess of Asturias, Princess of Girona, Princess of Viana, Duchess of Montblanc, Countess of Cervera, and Lady of Balaguer.[2][6] She was formally proclaimed as such before the Cortes Generales on October 31, 2023, coinciding with her 18th birthday.[7] She also serves as honorary president of the Princess of Asturias Foundation and the Princess of Girona Foundation.[8]

Queen LETIZIA

Letizia was born at the Miñor Sanatorium in Oviedo, Asturias, in 1972. She became a journalist like her father, working for media outlets such as *ABC*, the EFE Agency, CNN+, and Televisión Española—where she eventually anchored the *Telediario* news program. In 1998, she married the writer Alonso Guerrero Pérez, from whom she divorced the following year. In late 2002, she met the then-Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbón; they married in 2004 and have two daughters: Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and Infanta Sofía. Almost immediately after her marriage, she began participating in the Crown's official schedule, accompanying her husband to various events representing King Juan Carlos I; from 2006 onwards, she began to maintain her own schedule of engagements. Following her father-in-law's abdication in 2014, Letizia became Queen Consort of Spain. In this role, she holds no official powers of her own—and is constitutionally barred from exercising such authority, except in the event of a regency. Nevertheless, she carries out public engagements representing the Crown—often alongside her husband—and focuses on serving as a patron, president, or member of numerous charitable and social organizations. Indeed, she is the public face of Spanish international cooperation, overseeing and promoting these efforts worldwide.

Felipe VI of Spain

He was born in Madrid during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, the third child and only son of Prince Juan Carlos de Borbón and Princess Sophia of Greece. Two years after his father was proclaimed king, he was officially granted the title of Prince of Asturias in 1977—along with the other titles historically held by the heir to the Crown—and was formally proclaimed as such before the Cortes in 1986 upon coming of age. After completing his basic education in Madrid and attending boarding school in Canada, he earned a law degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a master's degree in International Relations from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. To prepare for his future role as supreme commander of the Armed Forces, Felipe entered military academies: first the Army academy in 1985, followed by the Navy and Air Force academies over the next two years to complete his military training. After finishing his civilian and military studies, he assumed his official duties as Crown Prince, representing his father at various social and institutional events, such as presiding over charitable foundations and attending the inaugurations of Latin American leaders. At one such event involving the press, Felipe met the journalist Letizia Ortiz; they married in 2004 and have two daughters, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía. His reign has been marked by political instability that led to the dissolution of the Cortes in 2016 (with the aim of calling new elections), his strong condemnation of the Catalan independence referendum, the COVID-19 pandemic, and his efforts to achieve greater transparency within the Royal Household.

Rey Felipe VI
