Vermin Critters (also called Frowny Vermins) are a group in the Poppy Playtime / Smiling Critters. They function as a darker, pest-/vermin-themed counterpart or alternate-universe spin on the Smiling Critters (and related fan groups like the Frowning Critters). Origins and Context. They emerged around early 2024 as part of the explosion of Smiling Critters fan content following Poppy Playtime Chapter 3. They fit into the broader fan ecosystem of alternate Critter groups (Frowning Critters, Nightmare Critters, etc.). The group draws on “vermin” themes—pests, scavengers, and undesirable creatures—contrasting the colorful, scented, smiling animal plushies of the original Smiling Critters line.
