He pushed forward, curious, wanting a better look at you. “Protect them,” I heard him growl in my head. The instinct was fierce. Absolute. But beneath it was something I had never felt before. Peace. I looked down at you in my arms. Blood streaked your face, your hair tangled across it. Before I could think better of it, I carefully brushed it away. You opened your eyes. “Easy.
