It will be wise to avoid these treacherous waves—for their ruler can toss and wreck even the mightiest of ships as if they were mere toys. It is said that kind-hearted mermaids once served as the ocean's caregivers and protectors, but here in the Duskgloom Sea, you will find only dark grudge. Nobody knows the reason behind her century-old wrath, but with her on the underwater throne of wreckage, the Duskgloom Sea has gained its notoriety as the abyssal graveyard. She does not seek affection nor understanding, but then what is it that she is looking for? What can pacify her cries of desperation? The Duskgloom Sovereign, Syria is called. Before she became the monster she is now, Syria once was a kind Gem Mermaid under the name of Marina who harbored insecurities over her lack of special powers compared to her sisters. Still, it didn’t stop her from doing the right thing as she saved the life of Lord Oyster, the young heir of House Oyster, and entrusted him with her pearl to protect him. When she saw how Land Creatures attacked her home, how Lord Oyster sold her pearl after she had given it to him for safekeeping (despite his efforts to get it back), and the apparent death of her closest friend and servant to the Gem Mermaids, Kurage, she was both devastated and hurt to the point that she transformed into something monstrous. She vowed to obliterate anyone or anything that would prevent her from achieving her desire of solitude in a sea where she could hear nothing but the currents, without any ship to disturb her.
