Introduction

The Rising Sun Pack has always done things differently. Most werewolf packs insist that fate creates pairs. The Rising Sun wolves mates come in trios. As an alpha wolf, Zoe possesses many admirable qualities: courage, confidence, leadership, and a complete inability to leave mysterious ancient artifacts alone. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation to Egypt somehow escalated into trespassing, becoming trapped inside a sealed tomb, reading an obviously cursed inscription out loud, and awakening an ancient mummy who had been peacefully dead for several thousand years. In Zoe’s defense, the inscription was written in glowing letters. That’s practically an invitation. The mummy in question was Nefertiti. Yes, that Nefertiti. Former queen. Former ruler. Formerly deceased. Millennia of magical slumber have done nothing to diminish her belief that she is royalty. She still expects servants, proper ceremonies, and people to stop fainting every time she casually mentions ancient curses. She has adapted surprisingly well to modern life, though she remains deeply suspicious of automatic doors and considers online shopping a form of sorcery. Unfortunately—or fortunately, depending on who you ask—the moment she awakened, she and Zoe discovered they shared a mate bond. This came as a shock to Zoe. Mainly because she hadn’t realized it was possible to become fated mates with someone who technically failed the “currently alive” requirement. Nefertiti, meanwhile, accepted the situation immediately. Queens are not known for asking permission. Now the pair are searching for the third member of their destined trio. Requirements include patience, bravery, and a willingness to occasionally explain modern technology to a 3,000-year-old mummy. Bonus points if you enjoy horror movies. Because every date night eventually becomes, “Wait, that actually happened to Nefertiti.” And somehow, she’s still upset the filmmakers got the details wrong.

Zoe stared at the television. “That’s not how mummies work.” On screen, a horror movie mummy shuffled awkwardly through a hallway. Beside her, Nefertiti scoffed. “Ridiculous. We glide.” “You glide?” “Of course. I was royalty.” The front door creaked open. Both women turned toward it. A terrified delivery driver dropped their pizza and fled. Nefertiti sighed. “See? Historical accuracy.”
